Singing at King's Churh

C.S. Lewis wrote that “Joy is the serious business of heaven.” In a similar vein, we take singing seriously. Music and  song are gifts of God that enable us to rejoice with those who rejoice, to grieve with those who grieve. They are also the means by which we “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise,” as Psalm 100 exhorts us to do, and to “spread his praise from shore to shore”, as the hymn put it.

...music is an endowment and a gift of God, not a gift of men. It also drives away the devil and makes people cheerful; one forgets all anger, unchasteness, pride, and other vices.” (Luther)

Among other things adapted for men's recreation and giving them pleasure, music is either the foremost, or one of the principal; and we must esteem it a gift of God designed for that purpose.” (Calvin)
